Life over Zoom

The circumstances around COVID-19 forced my life drawing practice to move online over the Zoom format. The challenges in this format meant it was difficult to see details due to poor lighting or bad cameras. It also forced strange perspectives and views that would not be seen in a live session, but also let us, the artists, into the models’ spaces. There was a general level of constant frustration. Frustrations arose dealing with the technology both as an interface and ongoing glitches with internet connections dropping out or the model’s space not allowing for a full view of the body. Also, ever present, the general and constant stress of the pandemic. The bulk of the drawings in this series were created in a single session using charcoal pencil, graphite, oil stick and oil pastel on Mylar. Both the front and back of the Mylar is worked.
